Charity Update – June 2002

Charity Update

The Pledge Program, initiated this year, continues to receive pledges and followup donations. While the program looks like i ts going to be successful, we haven’t heard from many of you yet. Your lodge sponsors a terrific charity program, and i f you haven’t given so far , you’ll be mighty glad if you do. For more details on this program, see your February Craftsman, or contact any lodge officer.  We’re also happy to announce that we successfully formed a 501(c)3 corporation, making your donations eligible for tax benefits. Here are the charities Hibiscus Lodge Charitable Foundation has donated so far :

• The Rainbow Girl s of South Miami ($250)
• The Worshipful Grand Mas te r ‘s Charity: The Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation ($300)
• The Shriner ‘s Hospital, Tampa ($300)

We have two more contributions to make to bring u s through May, and we’re close to deciding on both. Fir s t and foremost, we’ve been soliciting candidates for the Hibiscus Lodge Robert Tendrich Scholarship Award ($1,000) , which should be awarded very soon. In addition, we are considering a “runner -up” scholarship ($300) for a deserving student. We have a confirmed date, Thursday July 11, for food service at The Community Partnership for the Homeless. Food service begins at 5:30pm, and usually finishes before 7:00. In addition, i f you’re interested, you can arrive earlier (any time after 3:30pm) to help with food preparation, industrial style! Our contribution of $300 pays for an evening meal for 300 peopl e. For det a i ls on thi s or any other event , contact any of the charity committee members (below) . Also coming up this summer , is an event
at the Children’s Home Society. We’re also studying the possibility of hosting a Child ID program at a local outdoor family event. We’ll let you know as soon as details become available. We also have an act ion packed fall , so keep the pledges (and follow-up checks) coming, and try to make time to get involved. It ‘s a great opportunity to combine two of the best aspects of Masonry: brotherhood and charitable giving. See you there!

Regards ,
